I'll keep you all updated on what's happening with me at UrbanPromise Toronto through a video blog (vlog) soon. You're all asking for it, some of you wanted to be in it (sorry, another time), I promised you one for Christmas...so it's coming soon! Thanks for asking and waiting for updates STILL.

LOL

First Gig

I spoke for the first time representing UrbanPromise Toronto...it was amazing! God is so good!

My very first ever monthly supporter, Gerson, invited me to his church's coffee house at North York Fellowship International and I had the opportunity to have a table and speak for a few minutes about UPT, what we do, why we do it and where God fits into it all. I was surprised at how I was doing, the reactions I got, the talks I had afterwards at my table...I was amazed at myself, or really how God has shown me what spiritual growth is really like.

I got emotional or I tried not to, people I knew from before were there like GCF (Jericho), NYFI, Commonwealth (Loel), Tyndale (Cameron and Shayvon were there), UG (Marco), etc. There were several new people I never met or never met officially like these two pastors.

You know what, their reactions were surprising to what I said or what God said through me. You know, I'm going to assume y'all know what I mean when I say me but really God using me, cool? LOL, I'm getting tired of explaining myself to y'all and myself =P. But yeah, there was dead silence, people were emotional, mad at what's wrong with them and the church, passionate about God, convicted to move.

Shayvon told me and e-mailed me afterwards at how proud she was of me and my growth, seeing me speak up there and really seeing for the first time my passion to serve God and his kids in Jane and Finch. I'm encouraged that she's encouraged y'kno? I know these two pastors that were talking to me afterwards, they were like...we know what it's like, maybe we could partner up, let me tell you my stories. Another was like...I need to do something, it's hard, we need to do more.

You know, my intern was there too and I'm so glad she enjoyed the night even when we went out for pho with some people from that event. Very welcoming, I hope someday my whole leadership team can hang out with me in events like these, always great to have encouragement and fellowship with other believers in Christ.

I don't want to forget God in all of this or in future gigs like this. Gotta share His love to the kids, the families, the communities, share the vision to everyone and work together to further His kingdom and produce fruit for Him.

Oh man, it was so great.

I'm also glad I'm starting to journal again, or blog, or vlog...whatever you want to call it. It's a good discipline. Pray I stick with this.

Pray for Camp Freedom please...both the leadership team and the kids with their families.

Not Bad...

Wow, we're really short on staff on Thursdays. If any of our leaders are sick, injured, or work calls them in at some random time...it's a struggle.

We're short on male and female leaders, lack of bodies...my team works really hard though and in reality, we do really well with the numbers of leaders we have. However, more bodies would make things easier, more one-on-ones with homework help, more tasks I can delegate, things would be done quicker and all that good stuff.

It's good for us though, we're always alert and we have no choice but to step up in different areas. You should see some of my leaders, very proud of them. God is so great, I can see Him working all the time. The kids are getting the hang of everything too...oh, g2g...time to debrief LOL!

Been Too Long...

I know, I know...I haven't updated this in awhile still. I haven't had any vlogs or nothing. I'm trying to get my feet wet and familiar with the Jane & Finch water at it's special temperature. It's a new place, new staff, new direction, new dreams, new facilities...NEW EVERYTHING.

I'll have one up for Christmas soon. It'll be a vlog trying to summarize my first semester as an UrbanPromise Toronto Supervisor. So basically...from September to December, WOW...4 months into one vid that doesn't go too long is a huge challenge that requires selective and wise editing.

I want to keep you all updated about what's happening with me and I know there are demands of a new vlog. So...since I'm not too big of a fan of newsletters, my vlog is COMING SOON!

JOURNEY TO URBANPROMISE TORONTO
My journey started all the way back to my very first job and it started at my very own home church. God has blessed me ever since, never really having to look and apply for a job but being called and recruited from one mission field to another. Five years of different internship positions where I have met several brothers and sisters in Christ, I have learned so many lessons and God has revealed Himself to me in so many ways. His love, power, provisions, miracles, His work on my spiritual growth are all so evident from then till now.

As my internships were eventually coming to a close and while I was studying at a Bible college, a friend I worked with through one of my internships needed a Program Director for the Warden Woods community. It is located in the Scarborough area where Warden Avenue & St. Clair Avenue intersect. This was the start of my journey with UrbanPromise Toronto and I have been working with them for three years now as a Program Director, a streetleader, and a volunteer since the Summer of 2006.

And now it is on to a new position, the way I see it...or more exactly...the way God has revealed it to myself and others was that He has prepared me from one internship to another, then from one mission field to another and so on. God has been carefully equipping me, moulding me, preparing me for greater pastures such as this.

I wanted to join them full-time and there were several opportunities then but I refused believing that God had wanted me to graduate from university first. I am now a Tyndale University College & Seminary graduate with a degree of Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies. As soon as I had accomplished that, there was this same door open and waiting only for me and I have now been hired as a full-time missionary at UrbanPromise Toronto. I just want to praise our almighty God and give Him thanks for everything He has done, is doing, and will do.

ABOUT URBANPROMISE
UrbanPromise originally started in 1985 in Camden, New Jersey by Dr. Tony Campolo who set up programs aiming to serve and addressing the needs of the city and other “at-risk” communities. He did this by recruiting college students to work with the youth. The program is based on the belief that with support, children, youth, young adults and their families have the potential to achieve success and can reach their God-given potential. It eventually branched off from United States to Canada.

UrbanPromise Toronto began in 1998 with the vision to see change in government-housing neighbourhoods by reaching out to the inner-city children and youth with their families in several “at-risk” communities across the GTA. UrbanPromise Toronto works to create safe environments where they can experience nurturing care and attention and most of all...God’s love.

CAMP FREEDOM
The community I’m working with is in the Jane & Finch area in North York working alongside the Christian Centre Church. It is the newest UrbanPromise Toronto program and has been operational for two years. This building is conveniently located between the Driftwood and Shoreham government-housing communities. I will be the Site Supervisor looking over the Children’s Program having a team of program directors, interns, streetleaders, community workers and volunteers. It is a program for children ages 5-10 where the staff will develop in them as well as demonstrate to them self-confidence, academic success, social skills, physical health and spiritual growth as necessary elements of healthy development.

I will be supervising the after-school and summer camp programs and leading interns, streetleaders, and volunteers. There are special events like March Break camps, Summer camps of six weeks during the months of July and August, plays and sporting events which all provide lots of opportunities for mentorship, building relationships and showing God in and through it all.

PRAYER & FINANCIAL SUPPORT
I am joining UrbanPromise Toronto because I want to obey God’s Great Commission by reaching out to those who need the Lord. This is a place where I can put into practice what Jesus taught through serving others. This provides me an opportunity to do just that as I step out in obedience and so I need your help by praying for me as I prepare to move out, live, and serve in the Jane & Finch area. Prayer is of vital importance to every aspect of life and this is no exception. Also, if the Lord leads you to not just support me in prayer but investing financially as well, I would love and appreciate it very much. By supporting and partnering with me, you will have a direct impact on the ministry God has called me to.

I am looking for monthly supporters as well as bi-monthly, quarterly, yearly and one-time gifts. I need the equivalent of 100 individual monthly supporters at $25/month to support me in my role with UrbanPromise Toronto yearly. If you are able to join my team of financial supporters or should you require any additional information, please contact me through the following. You can also fill out the form below to mail out or by giving the form to me directly as well as donating online.
